Nigeria observed the International Day of the widow on June 23rd 2024 under the theme: “Gender Equality & The Culture of Widowhood in Nigeria,” which aims to highlight the societal and cultural issues impacting widows and promote gender equality.
The event was sponsored by the Canada Virtuous Women in collaboration with CAVIWO Nigeria and had 22 widows in attendance.
The main facilitator, Mr. Benjamin John Baraya, gave a lecture on, “The Culture of Widowhood in Nigeria”, and ended with a questions and answer session.
This was followed by training the widows on how to embark on small scale lucrative fish farming. It was conducted by Mrs. Olga Stephen.The training ended with interactions. The widows were so appreciative of the training received and planned to start their fish farms right away.
